A musician who has completely renewed the language of the accordion, Vincent Peirani began studying classical accordion and clarinet before discovering the world of jazz and free improvisation. He approaches the accordion as an orchestral instrument, using its sustained tones, breathing-like dynamics, unusual harmonies and rich timbral possibilities to create atmospheric, sometimes almost cinematic music. While frequently collaborating with different artists, one of his most important musical partnerships is with saxophonist Émile Parisien, with whom he has performed for more than a decade, both as a duo and in different ensembles. With several albums and projects behind him, Peirani’s clearest spirit as a composer comes to life in Living Being, the quintet that creates a space for collective exploration. The project draws on jazz, rock, contemporary composition and different musical traditions, but does not belong entirely to any of them. The quintet’s latest chapter, “Living Being IV: Time Reflections”, continues to explore this terrain, bringing together original compositions with re-imagined material from artists as diverse as Portishead, David Bowie and The Beatles. Together, this quintet of highly distinctive voices will close the 45th Skopje Jazz Festival.
